A popular activity for Smerdon service users
We have three accessible minibuses which enable service users to participate in the local community, accessing sessions such as bowling, swimming, ice skating, dance sessions, golf, football, boxercise as well as visits to local places of Interest.
Smerdon has a large team comprising of Centre Manager and Deputy, administrative staff, 28 direct support staff, Caretaker and four catering staff. All of our support staff have achieved, or are working towards, NVQ Level 3.
Staff are trained to provide the essential support for the client group, including safe handling and administration of medication, dysphagia (including Enteral PEG feeding), challenging behaviour, autism, first aid, epilepsy and anything else that has been identified as necessary.
Smerdon also offers a programme of additional activities outside of the main timetable which include, Monday Friends Social Club, Cinema Club, occasional Dinner and Dance evenings, trips to the Theatre and many other life enriching experiences.
This year we have also provided supported holidays which have proved to be a great success and we hope to extend this next year.
We are also fortunate to have the active support of many parents and carers of our service users, who help fundraise to pay for ‘luxury’ items needed by the centre – for example, the recent purchase of several ‘Alexa’ devices was down to the fundraising efforts of these Friends of Smerdon.
If you would like to visit the centre, please pop by, or alternatively make an appointment by emailing the centre manager directly at email@example.com
