Staying independent in our own home, for as long as possible, is something that we all hope for.
At the age of 90, that kind of independent lifestyle is something that Elizabeth Brown* is still able to enjoy, with the support of Eleanor Care and her daughter, Jennifer*.
Mrs Brown, who will celebrate her 91st birthday in 2014, began receiving home care support, with the involvement of Greenwich Council, from another provider in 2010.
When her regular carer, with whom she had built up an excellent relationship, moved on and joined Eleanor, Mrs Brown decided to follow her.
Although her regular carer has sadly suffered a period of ill health that has prevented her from working, Mrs Brown and her daughter remain happy with the service they receive from Eleanor.
Despite mobility problems, Mrs Brown is able to get up and make herself a cup of tea in the morning before her Eleanor carer pays a 30-minute visit to help her wash and dress.
Jennifer, who lives nearby, spends time with her mother every day and helps her to continue to go out and about and do things that she enjoys.
She says: “We have found Eleanor very good. Our current carer is consistent and punctual and if I have to ring the office, they are also very efficient. It’s reassuring to feel there is a good team in place.”
