Carers week is an annual campaign focused on raising the awareness of care and caring within society. It exists to highlight the challenges both unpaid and paid carers face in regards to the recognition they receive in-light of the contributions they make to families and communities throughout the UK.

The campaign is brought to life by individuals and organisations making pledges on carersweek.org, providing support for carers, running activities, highlighting the vital role carers play in our communities and drawing attention to the importance of caring within society.

This year in particular has provided a unique challenge for all carers. The coronavirus outbreak has caused a surge in the need of caring responsibilities, for those with relatives and friends who are disabled, ill or elderly and need support.

The art of delivering exceptional care was difficult before coronavirus arrived, as a result it is easy to understand how it was able to increase further in these difficult circumstances. Therefore, carers week for us this year is extra special, as we do recognise the dedication and commitment that our carers have provided over the past months.

As a business we have done our part in raising the profile of carers by launching our “We need you…they need you…” recruitment and awareness campaign, writing formal letters to government and proactively through our social media channels continually showing and showcasing our appreciation for not only our carers but also carers across the UK.

There are over 6.5 million people in the UK who are carers; looking after a family member or friend who has a disability, mental or physical illness or those who need extra help as they grow older. Caring has an impact on all aspects of individuals lives, from relationships and health to finances and work. Whilst many feel that caring is one of the most important things they do, its challenges should not be underestimated, caring without the right information and support can be tough.

Providing the opportunity to care in Bristol

Our Bristol branch had 23 applicants join us in 2 months, with a majority of these individuals possessing no previous care experience. However, after receiving excellent training from our Bristol staff and applying care principles from their personal lives, they have settled in and are enjoying their new roles with Eleanor.
