Smerdon is a state-of-the-art day centre in Belvedere, Bexley. Serving the local community for more than 40 years, it provides a safe space for people with a variety of learning disabilities. People of different age groups come here to explore their strengths, develop skills, and find meaningful, paid employment. The facility has extensive dedicated space for arts and crafts, cooking, and other creative activities.
As well as being a day centre, the spacious and well-equipped facility can also be hired as a venue for evening and/or weekend events. For enquiries, email: [email protected]
The team is headed by Gina Sloan, who has been with the service for more than 35 years. The well-trained team of carers and key workers are famous for their individual attention. Taking a strength-based approach, the team seeks to enable each person to live up to their full potential. The team first understands the person’s situation, their needs, skills, and aspirations, and tailors activities based on the goals they want to achieve. Independence and daily life skills are heavily emphasised. This is why, instead of just in-house activities, Smerdon also regularly hosts days out to venues where people experience real-life situations.
Eleanor’s Social Enterprises are an important part of our strategy of empowerment and independence. The work environment is adapted for the needs of our visitors to ensure it is safe and comfortable. The services Smerdon offers include:
• Dream Cards – Learn greeting card-making and sell your work to local businesses.
• Dream Gardening – Learn gardening and find year-round employment in the local community.
• Dream Media – Learn to work with a variety of media including design, film, and photography and offer your services to local businesses.
• Photobooth Hire – Be a part of the Dream Media team and manage Smerdon’s portable photobooth; available for weddings, events, and parties.
